New Year's Resolutions
Usually on New Year's while everyone else is spewing ridiculous resolutions, I am resolving not to even try to fool myself into thinking I am going to change anything about me or my habits. Don't get me wrong, it's not like some things don't need changing, but I know better than to expect myself to change them. (Then there are the things that are changing without any help from me, much to my dismay). That is a full time job just accepting those changes let alone forcing any others. This, however, is just the way I see it. I know that there are a lot of folks out there that really need this new lease on a new year and need to feel that they will better themselves in some way. For me, it is kind of like a do-over. Like, okay...last year wasn't bad, but let's try to get it right this year!! What do you think? What do you want to try and get right this upcoming year without piling on the pressure of a full fledged broken promise to one's self?
Maybe saying you will quit smoking is a little too much, but maybe saying you are going to
smoke less is more reasonable. That goal may be more obtainable. Maybe you want to lose a ridiculous amount of weight. Instead of making yourself miserable every day when you fail to adhere to that latest fad diet, try saying I will eat less and exercise more. As a bonus you may lose some weight without putting pressure on yourself or raiding the refrigerator every time you fail.
I have a few things I would like to improve upon without making it seem like I am making any silly New Year's resolutions. Actually, I might wait until sometime in February to start work on my list just to be a rebel.
- I would like to write more and be a better blogger ( I am not looking to win a Pulitzer)
- I would like to relax and read more ("me time" I like to call it)
- I want to travel more (but I am not ready to sail around the world)
- I would like to eat less (or better would probably be the best terminology)
- I would like to go on more walks with my husband and my dogs
- I would like to procrastinate less (but my medicine does not allow it...too bad, maybe another time)
So you see, we all have things that we would like to improve upon, but do we need to have anxiety trying to not disappoint ourselves? I don't think so!
What kind of resolutions do you have for the New Year? Or should I say "What kind of changes would you like to start working on in 2009?"
Best of Luck and Happy New Year to all my readers and friends and family!

no to resolutions that bring added pressure! and it would be pressuring myself if i resolve to be a better blogger. so i'd say more me time which includes time for blogging...it's self expression...it's freedom! thanks for an interesting page
